This week, Chandler Riggs (best known for playing Carl in The Walking Dead) released a short fan film based on Resident Evil 7 called Biohazard. Written, directed, starring, and edited by Riggs, this fan film is 100% his love letter to the game. At just 19 minutes long, Biohazard packs a substantial amount of scares into its brief runtime, with impressive production quality to boot. Best of all, the movie is entirely free, so you can watch the whole thing on YouTube. We would post it here, but it’s age-restricted, ope!

Ethan Meets the Family
In short, Biohazard follows Ethan Winters (played by Chandler Riggs), who goes searching for his missing wife, but instead runs afoul of a deranged backwoods family. Things quickly go to hell: blood is spilled; it’s what you’d expect from a Resident Evil story. However, in stark contrast to most other Resident Evil movies (including the recent 2026 film directed by Zach Cregger), Biohazard sticks incredibly close to the source material rather than attempt to tell an “original” narrative. From beginning to end, every story beat is pulled right from the game, with most scenes directly mirroring their game counterparts. Of course, some dialogue has been changed and elements altered for storytelling’s sake, but apart from that, this is practically Resident Evil 7 in viewable form.

As a huge fan of Resident Evil 7, watching this was fan service heaven. I’ll avoid heavy spoilers here, but it was great to see the fight in the garage, the inclusion of Police Officer Shovel-Head, and smaller details like the smashable crate in the dining room. I especially commend the set design, which felt identical to the grimy nature of the game, especially as Ethan is pursued through the halls.

If there’s anywhere that this short film stumbles, it’s in the script and acting. Riggs is a bit flat at times and a few lines are goofy, but it’s all serviceable enough. This isn’t Shakespeare, after all; it’s Resident Evil. Chandler Riggs might not be the strongest actor in this type of role, but he gets the job done, and it’s clear that this is his vision, executed as he wanted it. I can excuse any blemishes. Chandler Riggs created an entertaining and faithful piece of Resident Evil media and posted it in the middle of October for free. What a legend.
